Types of Dentures We Offer

Full (Complete) Dentures

A conventional full denture is placed after the gums have fully healed following extractions, typically a few months after tooth removal. This healing period ensures the best possible fit.

Immediate Dentures

If you need teeth removed and don’t want to be without teeth during the healing process, immediate dentures are placed the same day as your extractions. Because your gums and jaw change shape as they heal, immediate dentures will need to be relined or replaced after the healing period is complete — but they allow you to maintain your appearance and function right away.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are the right solution when you still have some healthy natural teeth remaining. They fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are anchored to your existing teeth using a metal or flexible non-metal frame. Getting dentures at Lee Family Dentistry is a straightforward process. Here’s what happens:

1. Consultation & Exam — Dr. Ly evaluates your gum health, bone structure, and remaining teeth to determine which type of denture is right for you. He’ll walk you through all your options, answer every question, and make sure you understand the full plan before anything begins.

2. Impressions — We take precise impressions of your mouth. These are sent to a dental laboratory where your custom denture is fabricated.  We have the ability to take digital impressions now eliminating the need for goopy impression material.  This also results in better fitting dentures.

3. Fitting Appointments — You’ll return for one or more fitting appointments where we check the fit, bite, and appearance of your denture and make any adjustments needed for comfort.

4. Final Delivery — Once everything is right, your finished denture is delivered. We’ll show you how to care for it, what to expect during the adjustment period, and how to keep it fitting well long-term.

Most patients need a short adjustment period as their mouth gets used to the new denture — this is completely normal. We are always available if you have questions or need an adjustment after delivery.

Caring for Your Dentures

Proper care keeps your denture looking great and lasting longer. A few simple habits make a big difference:

  • Remove and rinse your denture after eating to clear food particles
  • Brush your denture daily with a soft-bristle brush and denture cleaner — not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive
  • Soak your denture overnight in a denture-soaking solution to keep it free of bacteria.  Do not sleep with your denture/partial denture overnight!
  • Always handle your denture over a folded towel or a sink full of water — they can break if dropped
  • Continue to brush your gums, tongue, and any remaining teeth every morning before inserting your denture
  • Schedule regular checkups so Dr. Ly can monitor your gum health and the fit of your denture

How long does it take to get dentures? The process typically takes 4–6 weeks from your first appointment to final delivery, depending on the type of denture and how many fitting adjustments are needed. Immediate dentures can be placed the same day as extractions if needed.  Some dentures can be made in as little as two visits!

Do dentures look natural? Modern dentures are designed to closely match the appearance of natural teeth and gum tissue. Dr. Ly customizes the shape, size, and color of your denture to suit your face and skin tone. Most people will not be able to tell you are wearing them.

Will I be able to eat normally with dentures? Yes — though there is usually a brief adjustment period. We recommend starting with soft foods and working your way back to a normal diet over a few weeks. Most patients are able to eat a wide variety of foods comfortably with well-fitted dentures.

How long do dentures last? Full dentures typically last 7–10 years before they need to be replaced. However, relining is usually needed every 2–3 years as your gums and jaw change shape over time. Regular checkups help us monitor the fit and catch changes early.
